Xanax VS Lorazepam

Why are some doctors replacing Xanax with Lorazepam ? I did some internet research and made a short list of the differences between Xanax and Lorazepam :

First the Xanax is the trade name for Alprazolam.

Xanax (Alprazolam):
  • Kicks in faster.
  • Lasts for shorter time.
  • Gets you high.
  • Better for panic attacks.
  • Starts working immediately , lasts for an average of almost 22 hours.
  • Less likely to become addictive (if not abused).
  • Comes in 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 2 mg tablets.
Ativan (Lorazepam):
  • Kicks in slower.
  • Lasts longer.
  • Hardly sedating . (bad news for people who love the Xanax high).
  • Better for anxiety .
  • Starts working in the first hour after ingestion , needs two hours to act fully and lasts for 24 hours .
  • Can get addictive easily .
  • Comes in 1/2mg , 1mg , and 2mg tablets .
